My name is Pam & I’m a geocacher. Geocaching is a high tech scavenger hunt-type game using a GPS. (see www.geocaching.com for more) we’ve been doing this a few years, and as with any hobby I’m obsessed. It’s happened with genealogy, photography, embroidery, writing…you name it, I’ve obsessed over it to the point of addiction over it!
I’m writing this surrounded by the beauty of the forest of Plumas County, California, where our family has a house full of every comfort. Every comfort, that is, except Internet access. The problem? Obsessing over geocaching requires the Internet.
There are geocache pages that need to be written and typed before a geocache can be released publicly (believe me, I have hours of work on them for this week,) pictures to download, research on cool places to hide one, geocaching puzzles to solve, emails to write, ideas to develop. This could easily become a full-time job!
They say acknowledging your addiction is the first step to a cure. Not sure I want to be cured, but I am letting go enough, right now, today, to enjoy our spontaneous break from reality. I’ve read. I’ve napped. I’ve visited with my mother-in-law at length. I’ve begun the lemon risotto for dinner.
Have I quit mourning over the lack of Internet? Nah…not yet. But, I’ve noticed other thoughts have creeped into my brain. Is it cocktail time, yet?
